Santa Claus Scramble

Write the letters S-A-N-T-A C-L-A-U-S on individual  cards. Do this four times, making four sets, or forty cards. Place the cards in a  paper bag. To play - have the players divide into two teams on opposite sides of the room. Pass the bag that contains the letters. The teams alternate in picking a letter. The first team to combine their letters to spell SANTA CLAUS wins!

Pipe Cleaner Ornaments

This is quite easy, you need pipe cleaners and tri-coloured beads. Take the pipe cleaner and thread on the beads so they nest together. You can make a wreath, candy cane, star, etc. For older children -  you can weave ribbon with holes in it through the pipe cleaner and between each bead.

Christmas Tongue Twisters

Can you say these three times... fast?
Seven Santas sang silly songs.
Santa's sleigh slides on slick snow.
Bobby brings bright bells.
Running reindeer romp 'round red wreaths.
Tiny Timmy trims the tall tree with tinsel.
Chilly chipper children cheerfully chant.
Two trains travel together to Toyland.
Eleven elves licked eleven little liquorice lollipops.

Reindeer Cokey (sung to the tune of "The Hokey Cokey")

You put your antlers in. You put your antlers out.
You put you antlers in and you shake them all about.
You do the Reindeer Poky and you turn around.
That's what it's all about!
You put your hooves  right in....
You put your red nose in....
You put your fluffy tail in...
You put your reindeer body in...

Ornaments out of glue & glitter

Trace a simple star or whatever design on paper (tape the paper to the table), lay wax paper over the top so you can see the design (also tape it to the table). Put glue over the outline of the design & then sprinkle on the glitter.
Dry overnight & then peel from wax paper.

Popcorn ornaments

Here's a twist on traditional Christmas trims. Instead of stringing popcorn on string for your tree, string it onto medium-gauge wire and bend the wire into shapes such as bells, hearts, or stars. Add a ribbon to the top!

Humour

And finally.............

  • The roundest knight at King Arthur's round table was Sir Cumference. He acquired his size from too much pi.
  • A rubber band pistol was confiscated from algebra class because it was a weapon of math disruption.
  • Two hats were hanging on a hat rack in the hallway. One hat said to the other, 'You stay here, I'll go on a-head.'
  • Two silk worms had a race ... they ended in a tie.
  • Atheism is a non-prophet organization.

THANKSGIVING WREATH

You can make a ‘Thankful’ Wreath by cutting leaf shapes from coloured paper and sticking them to a circle cut from card. Write the things or names of people you are thankful for on to the leaves. You could use real leaves and write on them with a metallic gold pen.

HOW TO MAKE A TATTIE BOGGLE

Traditionally, scarecrows were set up in gardens and fields to keep unwanted birds -  particularly crows, away from the crop. Now people are making scarecrows for their annual Autumn/Harvest Thanksgiving decorations. Instructions are easy!

You will need ...

· Long-sleeved shirt
· Old pair of trousers or jeans - preferably with patches
· Old pair of socks or boots
· Gardening gloves
· Straw hat
· Plenty of baling twine or string
· Safety pins
· A pillowcase or pumpkin for the head
· Fibrefill, newspapers, rags, or straw for stuffing
· Pencil, paint and markers for face and Bamboo Canes (optional)

Firmly tie the ends of the trousers and sleeves on the shirt and fill them with your choice of stuffing. Stuff the socks and gloves and tie on the ends. Fasten the socks (or boots) and gloves to the trousers and shirt on the inside with safety pins (or bent paper clips.) Tuck the shirt into the trousers. If you're using a pumpkin for the head, it's best to carve it into a jack-o-lantern to take off some of the weight. It will take some wire to fasten it. A pillowcase works better and is far easier to attach to the body. Use a pencil and draw on the face. Follow up with the paint and markers to give him facial features. Then stuff the pillowcase and fasten it to the body with safety pins. Top off your scarecrow with a hat.
